HISTORY

Southwest's sanctuary was moved from its original location at Camp Blanding to the current site on Williston Road.  The building retains many of its original characteristics.  It has been a beacon of hope and a shining light on the Southwest side of Gainesville for decades.  The congregation has been active for more than 50 years, worshipping, serving and sharing the Christian faith in our community and beyond.

BELIEFS

At Southwest we believe every person is created in the image of God, period. We welcome people from all walks of life and hope they feel loved and welcomed as they worship with us.

Southwest is a United Methodist Church and therefore adheres to the beliefs of the United Methodist Church. For specific information regarding the core beliefs of United Methodism we encourage you to visit their main website (what-we-believe)

PRACTICES

The communion table of the United Methodist Church is an open table. You do not have to be a member of the church to partake. The invitation to the table is an invitation to a personal and lasting relationship with God through Jesus Christ. Everyone is welcome at the table. Communion is served the 1st Sunday of every month.

Develop Relationships. We are created to live in community and we need each other to be fully human, fully alive, regardless of our differences as individuals. Together we are better. It is in real and authentic relationship where we love, support, and care for each other, for each of us is significant to God.
